Basic Function

LyondellBasell is staffing for Process Engineers for our Channelview, TX Manufacturing Complex, located 18 miles from downtown Houston.  Our 4,000-acre Channelview Complex consists of a North facility with two Olefin units with downstream processing that manufacture Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, MTBE, Alkylate, C5’s and Aromatics as well as separate Methanol and Isopropanol units. The South facility uses many of these products to produce Propylene Oxide, Styrene Monomer, ETBE and BDO derivatives.

The Process Engineer will provide process engineering support for unit operations and capital projects for the Channelview Manufacturing plants. The individual will collaborate with unit production engineers, operations specialists, and reliability partners to identify, recommend, and implement strategic projects to improve unit performance and profitability.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and support projects/programs which contribute to the profitability, reliability, environmental and safety integrity of the plant.
  • Evaluate existing processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve product quality and reduce risk.
  • Evaluate alternate engineering solutions to improve existing plant operation or new future plants and offer a technically sound recommendation for the path forward.
  • Support plant evaluations and management of change packages providing technology input and endorsement.
  • Provide process design support for capital projects including Process Design Package preparation.
  • Coach less experienced engineers, as well as provide technical training to others.
  • Effectively communicate technical recommendations and achievements both verbally and written.
  • Incorporate process safety, environmental soundness and reliable operations principles and standards in projects and tasks.
  • Work directly with vendors, contractors and project engineering as appropriate.


  • Solid understanding of unit operations and process safety management systems
  • Relevant work experience with world-scale chemical and petrochemical process unit design and/or operations.
  • Knowledgeable in the development of process design packages and related economics.
  • Knowledge and experience with Propylene Oxide, Methanol, and/or Aromatics processes is desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Aspentech process simulation tools is desired.
  • Process design experience supporting capital projects is desired.
  • Candidates must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork, and communication skills with a results oriented commitment. The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential.
  • This position requires negotiating skills and the ability to resolve conflict across departmental lines to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver complex technical reports and presentations 
  • Ability to summarize conclusions and impacts to be clearly understood for decision makers.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on the overall value to the organization
  • Familiarity with MS Office and process simulation software.


  • BS in Chemical Engineering minimum. 
  • A minimum of 6 years of process engineering experience.
