Job Description

The Process Engineering Team within the Upper Providence Pilot Plant delivers technical and chemical engineering expertise to support the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used for development and clinical trials.  These engineers are responsible for providing support for the introduction of new processes, equipment or technologies into the pilot plant along with maintaining the equipment and facilities. 

 

We are seeking an introductory level engineer to deliver the technical knowledge and chemical engineering expertise to support the scale-up, transfer, and manufacture of chemical processes and manage pilot plant equipment and facility infrastructure.  The role entails an even balance of preparatory and technical support with hands-on support for both manufacturing and facilities related activities.    The role is fast paced and dynamic and will enable you to work on multi-disciplinary teams.

 

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career.  These responsibilities include: 

 

  • Perform engineering assessments to identify and proactively address process issues (scale-up, safety, equipment selection, etc.) related to the introduction of new processes or equipment into the pilot plant.
  • Design or reconfigure equipment trains to address process specific reaction, extraction, distillation, crystallization, isolation (filtration/drying) or other unit operation requirements for the introduction of new processes to the pilot plant.
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams to draft effective batch records to facilitate the safe and right-first-time manufacture of both development and clinical batches.
  • Provide on-the-floor coverage and guidance to operators for critical unit operations performed within the pilot plant.
  • Identify and facilitate the introduction of new equipment or technology into the pilot plant, including the support of qualification activities.
  • Assist drafting of standard operating procedures (SOP) to define the procedures for carrying out activities within the pilot plant.
  • Provide engineering input into Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) / Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) to establish the basis for safe operation of equipment within the pilot plant.
  • Coordinate equipment and facility maintenance activities with maintenance personnel.
  • Provide support to large scale capital projects in support of pilot plant equipment or facilities.
  • Assist the pilot plant in conducting activities or drafting reports to comply with corporate and local regulatory requirements as part of the pilot plant’s license to operate.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with engineering modeling/simulation software such as Dynochem, or Aspen.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering with 1-2 years industry experience and an emphasis on chemical processing.
  • Experience with validating equipment for GMP operations.
  • Automation control experience with DCS systems such as DeltaV
  • Working knowledge of organic chemistry
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work within a collaborative environment.
