Our client is a world leading innovator of new products and new process, they are seeking Scientists, Chemists, Material Scientists, Polymer Chemists, Formulation Scientists, Process Chemists, Physicists, Engineers who are self-motivated and understand the demands and commercial drivers of new product development.  Full training will be available along with the opportunity to work in a variety of projects from inception, scale-up, process development, production and commercialisation.

Key Tasks

  • It is expected that the role will support projects, from idea through to launch capability following innovation processes across the full suite of physical products.
  • Although this role will not lead projects, it will have ownership of discrete work packages and activities, and will develop skills to enable future project leadership.
  • This role will also support project work across all R&D teams where appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend Peer Review activities to build knowledge in key areas.
  • Pursue personal development path for building industry expertise to contribute to R&D knowledge pool and to help develop and support IP activity.
  • To keep abreast of technological developments throughout the industry in order to maintain competitive advantage and achieve commercial objectives. Provide the business with up-to-date and timely information on relevant new technologies.
  • Work within a stage gate development process utilising appropriate Six Sigma and APQP methodology as appropriate for effective leadership of key development projects.
  • Support development of rigour through peer reviews, appropriate involvement in projects and support timely project progress status.
  • Build understanding of other areas, external customers and agencies and to help support in development of standards across the department.
  • Assist in the creation and evolution of rigorous test procedures for documents and processes.
  • Undertake product development and testing activities as part of approved materials development projects.
  • To support R&D activities such as H&S, equipment purchase and lab management.
  • Adherence to ISO9001 procedures for new product developments.
  • To apply specific experience across projects. This involves researching, filtering, prioritizing, analyzing and validating potentially complex solutions.
  • To develop own and assist in developing colleagues’ technical capability in strategic areas.
  • Ensure that all experimental and other activity within the Job holder’s department is conducted in a manner compatible with EHS, COSHH and company security/housekeeping requirements.
  • To participate in the performance development review (PDR) process and maintain an up to date record of all training and development activities/programs.

Candidate Profile

  • Graduate chemistry, physics, material science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering.
  • Has the ability to learn the processes involved in the delivery of projects or sub-projects with evidence of delivering to challenging timescales and under pressure.
  • Has the ability to learn, the science involved in one or more areas of scientific focus to support the product ranges.
  • Can interpret technical problems and explain key points to non-technical parties.
  • Demonstrates good analytical skills and evaluative judgement based on analysis of factual and qualitative information.

  • Able to work comfortably in complicated or novel situations.
  • Works with other areas of the business to understand and assist in technical problems solving.
