This Operations Manager is a senior role with a UK Subsidiary of a significant global group which operates in 21 countries through 43 sites. It has a world leading operation in South Wales, which manufactures speciality chemicals used in a broad range of applications. The site has had significant capital investment, operates through a 24/7 continental shift pattern and it is also a world leading HSE site. Its manufacturing operations are through a combination of continuous process and batch production techniques and it supplies broad ranging markets including a significant international customer.
As Operations Manager reporting to the sites Facility General Manger and deputising on occasions, the focus of the role is to lead production with downstream packaging and shipping processes included and in collaboration with senior colleagues, deliver high levels of operational performance through continuous improvement activities including the use of lean manufacturing tools and techniques. There is a major corporate emphasis on the importance of behavioural safety management with a high degree of employee involvement and you will be heavily involved in further developing the safety culture with the use of process safety and related systems being key. There will also be close involvement with engineering in the implementation of the capital investment programme.
The Operations Manager position calls for a highly experienced manufacturing or production manager with the headroom to grow. Candidates will need to have an engineering or science degree, preferably chemical or mechanical and an MBA would also be advantageous. Formal qualifications in Health and Safety such as NEBOSH, plus experience in behavioural based safety culture change is also advantageous. Your track record will have been built in fast-paced complex process manufacturing, preferably chemicals or oil and gas and you must be able to demonstrate a real strength in improving operational results and implementing continuous improvements. The Operations Manager will need to have strong project management, root cause analysis, lean and 6 sigma skills. The client is looking for a strong leader with superb interpersonal skills and a relationship builder who can build and develop high performing teams.
