AECOM’s Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM’s Government business line and is comprised of three divisions — International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer 3 - Nuclear for our Oak Ridge, TN project office. The incumbent engineer will support a process facility project for the Department of Energy (DOE) which will replace many of the aging nuclear capabilities of the United States nuclear program. Primarily work will be focused on cutting edge nuclear related projects working within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers to execute design and engineering on various projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Act as a lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a design or section of an analysis or design review.

  • Generate complete design specifications of more complex projects.

  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

  • Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

  • Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (i.e. Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering) from a four year accredited college or university

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years related process engineering experience

  • Understanding & working knowledge of nuclear criticality safety principles

Experienced in preparing process design documentation including:

  • Flow diagrams

  • Formal design analyses and calculations

  • Equipment layouts and designs influenced by nuclear criticality safety

  • Equipment procurement documents

  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US citizens

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License preferably in Tennessee or ability to obtain.

  • Prior government and/or DOE experience.

  • Experience with process software packages (MathCAD, Aspen Hysys, AspenPlus or AFT Fathom) a plus.

  • Must be capably of interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Capable in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and draw valid conclusions.
